The Official beginning of INDIAN PHARMACOPOEIA was the publication of BENGAL  DISPENSARY in 1894. The Bengal Pharmacopoeia appeared in 1844. The first official Pharmacopoeia was PHARMACOPOEIA OF INDIA, LONDON which appeared in 1868.It contained drug official in BP (BRITISH PHARMACOPOEIA) in 1864 and some indigenous drugs. The Indian and colonial addendum ob B.P. appeared as the GOVERNMENT OF INDIA edition in 1901.In 1946, the Government of India issued 'THE INDIAN PHARMACOPOEIAL LIST. Two years later, in 1948 the Government of India appointed 'THE INDIAN PHARMACOPOEIA COMMITTEE'. First edition of I.P. was IP 1955. The supplement to it IP 55 was publish in 1960.
